Welcome to PYMS

"I am delighted to introduce our full offer to schools for the 26/27 academic year."

This has been an exciting year for our music service, as we have welcomed a number of new schools and continued to expand our reach, providing more children and young people with opportunities to engage in music. We recognise, however, the ongoing financial pressures faced by both schools and music services, and we remain committed to reviewing our offer to ensure it continues to provide value and affordability.

As part of this review, we have made the difficult decision to reduce the subsidy for our "Everyone Plays In Class" programme (formerly known as First Access). Schools will now be required to contribute an annual fee of £800 per academic year, with the rest subsidised by the music service. Despite this change, our pricing remains below the national average, reflecting our commitment to keeping music education accessible for all schools in Plymouth.

From September 2026, parents will be able to book individual and small group lessons directly through the music service website, significantly reducing administrative demands on schools.

Following successful trials over recent months, our music technology offer is now underway. This includes tailored DJ workshops and peripatetic teaching for individuals and small groups. As we continue to develop this area, availability will be limited — we encourage early booking to secure sessions.

PYMS continues to share and reinforce the government's commitments to ensuring every child has access to high-quality music provision. This includes opportunities to sing, play instruments, create music collaboratively, and progress further where appropriate.

In response, we will be placing increased focus on developing clear musical pathways for pupils, including ensembles, performance opportunities, and progression routes both within schools and the wider community.

We kindly encourage you to submit your instrument preferences for September as early as possible to help avoid waiting lists, and to follow our social media channels for updates.
